Spring Stakeholder Event Featured Speaker Jonathan Red
Jonathan Red graduated from Duke University in 1974 with a B.A. in Political Science and Economics and received an MBA in Marketing and Finance from Jacksonville University, Jacksonville, Florida in 1987. Immediately after graduating from Duke University, he began a 23 year career in the United States Navy which included both command of a ship and command of a shore facility. Prior to retiring from the Navy at the rank of Commander, he was in charge of systems and facilities procurement for the Surface Naval Reserve Force.
Since retirement, Mr. Red has had extensive experience in international shipping serving, in succession, as Director of Finance, Operations, and Marketing for the largest bulk stevedoring company along the US Gulf handling more than 16 million tons annually. Mr. Red was the feasibility study director and Marketing and Economics Advisor for a feasibility study focusing on establishing a Container Hub Terminal in Lome, Togo to provide efficient, economical container service to 23 sub-Saharan African countries.
Currently, Mr. Red is Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Sea Point, LLC in Louisiana. Sea Point will be a Container Transfer Facility located near the mouth of the Mississippi River in Venice, Louisiana. Sea Point will serve the inland ports and destinations of Mid America by an efficient combination of Container on Barge (COB), rail, and truck. Sea Point has completed due diligence with a major European Infrastructure firm for a capital investment between $100 and $140 million which will support selling bonds for the balance of the $400 million project.. Construction can begin as early as this summer. Sea Point has received six Letters of Agreement form Asian carriers to develop all water service to Sea Point when it is operational in 2011. None of these carriers currently have direct calls to any US Gulf ports.
